{"id":433,"date":"2014-01-07T16:17:36","date_gmt":"2014-01-07T16:17:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tejas.realstackweb.com\/cwd-one-best-reasons-deer-fence\/"},"modified":"2014-01-07T16:17:36","modified_gmt":"2014-01-07T16:17:36","slug":"cwd-one-best-reasons-deer-fence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tejasranchfence.com\/cwd-one-best-reasons-deer-fence\/","title":{"rendered":"CWD \u2013 One Of The Best Reasons For A Deer Fence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Among the hottest wildlife topics among hunters, property owners and government agencies is Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), and how best to protect both the wildlife and humans.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a>\u00a0(CDC) defines CWD as \u201ca prion disease that affects North American cervids (hoofed ruminant mammals, with males characteristically having antlers).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mule deer, white-tailed deer, elk, and moose are the animals that are known to be hosts of this disease that, according to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cwd-info.org\/\">Chronic Wasting Disease Alliance<\/a>, causes a characteristic spongy degeneration of the brains of infected animals resulting in emaciation, abnormal behavior, loss of bodily functions and death.<\/p>\n<p>While the CDC has not found direct evidence to conclusively state how CWD is transmitted, there is evidence to support transmission is occurring through \u201cdirect animal-to-animal contact\u201d or through contaminated deer feeders and water.<\/p>\n<p>There does not appear to be consensus on the risk to humans.
